Three San Diego area search teams respond vehicle crash

On January 27, 2020, SDF-trained search teams in the San Diego area deployed to search for two missing people following a vehicle rollover:

Three SDF-trained search dogs were called into action on Monday, January 27, in the Granite Hills area of El Cajon, California, after a vehicle rolled over a hillside, leaving two victims unaccounted for. Search teams Aide Barbat & Delta (San Diego Fire-Rescue), Clint Schepe & Georgia (Chula Vista Fire), and Billy Walkenhorst & Victor (Santee Fire) were tasked with searching for survivors near the wreckage. All three teams searched the area, but sadly, the dogs did not alert and rescuers concluded the driver of the car did not survive the crash.

Although the outcome is not what we hope for, we are grateful to these canines and their handlers for helping to give the victims’ families some closure in the wake of this tragedy. Our thoughts go out to the families of those involved in the accident and thank the first responders, both two- and four-legged, for helping in rescue and recovery efforts.
