Two Search Teams deploy for missing person in Mount Waterman, CA

On June 22, 2019, a 73-year-old man was separated from his hiking group in the mountains near La Canada Flintridge, CA. SDF-trained Search Teams Manny Sampang & Eva and Ryan Greenup & Koda (both with Los Angeles County Fire Department) were sent out as a part of a massive search operation on the fourth day of the man’s disappearance. Each team covered approximately a four mile area during what Manny called an "extensive search," but they did not alert on live human scent. Miraculously, the man was found alive by crews in another part of the mountains called “Devil’s Canyon” on the seventh day of searching -- he had crawled inside a drainage pipe and survived off creek water, though he’d had no food.
