Kendri was found wandering the streets in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and was luckily brought to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society—a shelter that previously found Search Dog Decker—so shelter staff knew this energetic dog could have a heroic future when they saw Kendri. A staff member recognized her very high energy and her intense love for toys and immediately contacted SDF Recruiter Kellee Matthews who agreed and pulled Kendri from the shelter to evaluate her for SDF.
Kendri, an incredibly friendly black lab, passed our evaluation with ease, demonstrating great focus on the toy…any toy! According to Canine Recruitment Director Sylvia Stoney, “Kendri demonstrated great focus on the toy….any toy!”
Kendri is a very bright and spunky candidate; Trainer Mandy Tisdale
describes her as a firecracker! When training, she brings an enthusiasm to the task at hand that is reminiscent of some of our past graduates—an untapped energy that makes her a whiz on the rubble. She has tons of drive and is acing every search challenge presented to her. Her search is almost too fast, if that’s possible. The trainers want Kendri to slow down a little as a way to “turn on” her nose for a more thought-out hunt instead of a wild, frenzied search. In fact, trainers say she has no self-preservation and will jump off anything to find the hidden “victim!”
Her dedication and enthusiasm for the search is quite strong and she constantly wants to get to work. She is also doing well with agility and Direction and Control–the latest additions to her training regimen. Again, she is enthusiastic and ready to quickly get to her job, so trainers are working with her on each discipline to slow her down in order to force Kendri to focus more on the task at hand.Through more training, she will become both methodical and fast in her search.
She’s looking great so far and is currently one of the brightest stars in the Canine Class of 2019!
