Mocha—originally named Sugar—was initially used as a breeding dog, but when that didn’t work out, her owner surrendered her to Mendocino County Animal Care Services in Ukiah, CA. At the shelter, this friendly Chocolate Lab caught the attention of our friends at Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue (GGLRR), who pulled Mocha from the shelter and placed her in a foster home. There, with a little encouragement and a lot of love, she began to thrive! As her playful, excitable personality emerged, her foster realized that she had working dog potential, and reached out to SDF.
Mocha made her way to SDF, and while she was initially hesitant and a bit shy, she steadily began to open up and find her confidence. Her trainers worked with her to show her how much fun search training could be, and before long, she was bouncing with excitement whenever it was time to work! However, when Mocha progressed to searching on rubble, her enthusiasm began to wane. After a while, her trainers could see that this sweet girl would be happiest as a pet in an active, loving household, and they began searching for a home she could call her own.
It wasn’t long before Mocha won the hearts of potential adopters—her soon-to-be family was immediately smitten with this sweet girl, and they eagerly welcomed her into their home. Mocha, now 12 years old, has since enjoyed over nine happy years with her adoring forever family by her side! She enjoys daily walks and loves to go swimming in the pool in the summer. Her parents say, “Mocha has been the most wonderful, loving dog we have ever owned.” We’re so thankful that SDF could help Mocha find her perfect match—it’s clear that she’s exactly where she’s meant to be!
