Lolli found herself in a difficult situation when she was surrendered to the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana (HSNWLA) along with her very young puppy. Sadly, her puppy did not survive, and Lolli wasn’t having much luck finding her forever home because, though she’s a friendly girl, she was frequently passed up by potential adopters due to her intense toy drive. A local Sheriff’s department evaluated Lolli, and though they believed she had potential as a working dog candidate, they didn’t have a placement available at that time. HSNWLA took to social media to post about Lolli, and upon seeing the posts, SDF quickly reached out. Lolli’s luck was about to turn!
We soon discovered that this adorable girl absolutely loves giving and receiving affection, and Lolli’s sweet personality quickly won over our staff. When it came to training, Lolli had no problem learning the bark alert—in fact, she was such an enthusiastic barker that her trainers started integrating non-barking toy play exercises to help her focus on tasks other than her bark alert. Outside of barking and toy play, however, she wasn’t too sure about the work. Like humans, dogs can become overstimulated, and Lolli would sometimes experience sensory overload and become stressed when exposed to new environments. Trainers worked with her to build her confidence, but it soon became clear that she would be happiest as a pet in an active home.
Lolli entered our Canine Placement program, and it was no surprise this big love bug was quickly scooped up. Lolli’s adopter had lost her husband months earlier and was looking for an active companion to share her home. Though her beloved cat was a source of comfort, she wasn’t up for walks in the neighborhood or playing ball in the yard. Luckily, those are a few of Lolli’s favorite things! In May 2022, Lolli headed home, where she happily settled into her new life with her adoring mom and cat sibling, Gatto.
Since then, Lolli has been living the dream: she and Gatto get along well, she has a big yard to play and run around in, and she gets to go on play dates with her dog friend, Kahlua. When Lolli’s adopter broke her leg and was unable to walk or play, her many friends and neighbors, along with her daughter, stopped by daily to play ball and take Lolli on walks. Lolli’s mom says, “She is such a special baby. She loves everyone and everyone loves Lolli. I am so lucky!” It seems to us that Lolli is lucky too—we couldn’t dream up anything better for this sweet, loving girl than a loving home and a community of people who love her as much as she loves them!
