From Roaming the Streets to Patrolling a Beat: Meet K9 Zeva

Zeva was found as a stray in Columbia, Missouri. No one came forward to claim her, so Zeva was fostered while she waited for adoption through the Missouri German Shepherd Rescue. Zeva’s foster happened to have experience in search and rescue training and was immediately impressed with the skills Zeva demonstrated. She is toy obsessed, friendly, and environmentally very confident. After posting about her on Facebook, Zeva was spotted by the SDF Recruitment team, and we reached out. After a video review, Zeva was transported to our National Training Center for further assessment.

Zeva showed some great skills during her official performance evaluation on site, but unfortunately, a high-impact career in urban search and rescue was not in her best interest after a medical screening revealed she had mild hip dysplasia. Through our fantastic career change partner, Sector K9, Zeva was given a chance at a single-purpose law enforcement job with their Rescue2Resource program. Now working alongside her partner at the Todd Mission Police Department in Todd Mission, Texas, Zeva helps keep her community safe as a narcotics detection and tracking dog.

We are so happy this fabulous girl now has a wonderful career she loves. Keep up the good work, K9 Zeva!
