Happy Tails – meet Jackson!

Jackson (a.k.a. Jax)—originally named Brutus—was discovered as a stray in the Naperville, Illinois area and taken to the Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS), where he was put up for adoption. NAHS staff reported that he did well in the kennel and absolutely loved everyone he met, but despite his sweet temperament, he was frequently passed up by potential adopters. Whenever he was taken into the play yard for a meet and greet, he would get so excited to meet a new person and play with them, that all people could see was his wild, energetic side.

NAHS’ trainer learned about SDF while listening to the K9 Conservationist Podcast, which had recently featured SDF Canine Recruitment Outreach Manager, Katie Brennan in a two-part interview. On the podcast, Katie sheds light on SDF’s canine recruitment process, including the important qualities we look for in potential recruits. So, when the trainer noticed Jackson’s friendly demeanor and high toy drive, she realized that he might be just the kind of dog we’re looking for!

Jackson hopped on a flight headed to California, and it wasn’t long before he was making friends with trainers and other dogs here on campus. However, after working with our trainers, his toy drive still wasn’t quite at the level necessary to become a search dog. He entered our Canine Placement Program, and our team got to work finding his perfect match.

After months of searching, Jackson was introduced to some potential adopters who were attending an SDF Pairing Ceremony on campus. As soon as they met Jackson, they fell head-over-heels in love—Jax had finally found his forever family! He eagerly headed to his new home, which sits on a full acre of property where he can run and play to his heart’s content. His adoring new parents dote on him every day and tell him often that he is the best boy ever and they don’t know what they did without him. We’re so excited for Jax and his wonderful humans, and we look forward to future updates from the happy family!
