Thanks to our four-year partnership with the U.S. military, SDF once again has been selected to participate in the Department of Defense’s Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program.
This program allows our military service members to gain valuable, hands-on experience in specified fields of construction in preparation for their military deployments. This “win-win” arrangement also helps us build the National Training Center (NTC), our collective gift to the nation.
On June 5, we welcomed troops from the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 22 who will stay onsite throughout the summer. New rotations of Seabee reservists will arrive each Monday and will work with us for two weeks at a time.
During the 2017 program, the IRT program will construct elements of each of the following projects:
- Improvements to the existing Caretaker’s Residence
- Construction of the Collapsed Freeway training prop
- Viewing Stands and Gravity Walls throughout the campus
- Industrial Park roadways
SDF staff and volunteers are enjoying weekly lunches with the troops on campus, getting to know each service member. And it doesn’t hurt that some of the Search Dogs in-training tag along too!
We are so honored and proud to be part of this special program and working alongside our nation’s troops!
